Hello Friends! I am excited to have my first article "The Best Ensemble Sound" published in the June/July issue of The Instrumentalist. The article is based on the clinic I will be presenting at the Midwest Clinic in December entitled “Achieving your Ensemble Sound; Its Fundamental!” This article talks about how spending time daily on fundamentals (posture, breathing, embouchure, articulation, and releases) can greatly improve your band’s ensemble sound. Other topics include the importance of having a “sound goal” in your head, what can get in the way of a “pure and vibrant” sound, the three levels of listening, basic fundamental exercises, and even variations on those fundamental examples to specifically work on ensemble skills such as balance and intonation. There are even examples available on chrisgrifamusic.com located on the media page of the Creekside Middle School Wind Symphony performing these examples.
If you subscribe to The Instrumentalist and have the opportunity to read it, I'd love to hear your thoughts and ideas. Remember, these are concepts that have worked for me and there are many ideas out there and I would love to hear them!
Thanks for reading!
